Jesus said to satan that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of god. (Matt. 4:4)
Also in (John 11: 25, 26) Jesus said to Martha the sister of Lazarus whom all Jesus loved, “ I am the Resurrection and the Life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believeth thou this?
So, Jesus wants to say that food is essential for man to live, but the word of god also is able to sustain man living! Here in the case of Lazarus who died due to sickness but believing and waiting for Jesus to come and heal him till his last breath as Jesus did not come to heal him in time. So Jesus said “ I am the resurrection and the Life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live!” So according to the words of Jesus the dead Lazarus was made to live by the power of Resurrection and Life, of Jesus. It was a wonder in Bethany that a dead man was made to resurrect after four days of his death from the sepulchre by Jesus. This was applicable for Lazarus and he enjoyed it and also his two sisters particularly, among many others. But the next word Jesus spoke was for you and me, if we are able to believe as he questioned at the end of his saying, “ believeth thou this?” because we are living and need to believe.
Can we believe the words of Jesus in this respect? Yes we can believe if we are able. Because in (Matt. 24: 35) Jesus said that “ Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away”. So we have an assurance from Jesus that his words can be believed. To verify this truth, do we have any proof in this world? Yes, there is a proof and some one can go and verify it in Himalayas! In the book of Sadu Sundar singh a native of Punjab in India, who lived about an hundred years back, who mainly did gospel work in Tibet of Himalayas, he mentioned about a Maha Rishi or a “great sage” or hermit in chapter 6 of his book. ( By name: Sadhu Sundar Singh, A Biographgy, written by A.J. Appasamy, D.Phil., D.D., D.Theol. Formarly Bishop in Coimbatore, India, Published by The Christian Literature Society.) He met the Maha Rishi three times (in 1912, 1916 & 1917) and discussed with him many things. If any one likes to verify, please read that book and be confirmed, by visiting him in mount Kailash. His first meeting was accidental when he slipped from above in snow and fell in front of the cave where the Maha Rishi was living. That time the Maha Rishi said that he was 300 years old and Jesus asked him to be there and pray for the saints in the world. He was from the city Alexandriya of Egypt, and in possession of a Greek Bible to read. He is living on some special greenary growing near by and drinks water from a hot water spring available in snowy mountain. It is not mentioned whether Maha Rishi travelled from Alexandriya to Kailash in Himalayas or he was carried by the Spirit of god to that place. He cofessed that the present cave where he lives is allotted to him by Jesus himself. His friends never believed Sundar singh’s sayings about the Maha Rishi but later few believed and decided to meet the Maha Rishi and started their journy, but none of his friends could reach the destination due to cold and became sick enroute, except Sundar Singh, who met him.
There are few more verses Jesus spoke about the long life! Let us ponder them!
In (John 8: 51) Jesus said, ”Verily, verily, I say unto you, if a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.” So to inherit the blessing of long life one has to keep the sayings of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit through King Solomon uttered the similar words in (Proverbs 4:10) as “Here, O my son, receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.” Hence let us believe and practice to obey and keep the sayings or commandments of Jesus in our lives and inherit long life together with good health and good sight.
Another word Jesus spoke about long life of John the apostle. Jesus said to Peter, “If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me.” Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die. (John 21: 22, 23) Also about John the apostle we read in the book of Revelation, that in his vision he was asked by God to receive a small open book from one mighty angel, and the angel asked John to eat that book and he ate. Then the angel gave John a mission to be completed in 3 ½ years, and the mission is mentioned in the following chapter. (Rev. 10: 8-11, 11: 2-7) So it is a proof that Apostle John and one more, will live long till the sixth trumpet period and complete their mission in 3 ½ years during the period of building the Temple of God in Jerusalem in the last days, of the second coming of Christ, which is mentioned in the following paragraph.
Again Jesus spoke about long life in (Matt. 16: 28, Mark 9:1, Luke 9; 27) that “ Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. Or till they see the kingdom of god comes with power.” Some interpret this as the power of the Holy Spirit was received by 120 disciples in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. But this interpretation is wrong as none died except Judas Iscariot till the day of Pentecost, whereas Jesus said that there will be few which will not die, means all others would die except those few. Here Jesus speaks about His second coming, and not the day of Pentecost. It is about 2000 + years from His first coming. One may ask, how? Now we are in AD2016. It means those few mentioned by Jesus are living now with a long life of about 2000 years! Perhaps they might be living in some mountains like Himalayas as the Maha Rishi mentioned in the book of Sadhu Sundar Singh as mentioned above.
The Maha Rishi is living long with a purpose of praying for the saints of God living in the world. Similarly the few mentioned by Jesus with a long life also has a definite purpose that the few mentioned by Jesus may be Two, who need to come to the earth during the period of the Sixth Trumpet to prophecy for a period of 3 ½ years, and they are Anointed people. (Rev.11:3, 4) and (Zach. 4:14) Also this long life is promised for few only and not for all, because we read in Bible that Jesus raised the dead only on few occasions and not all occasions. In one place Jesus asked his particular disciple to follow him, and he in turn requested Jesus to permit him to bury his father who died, and Jesus did not give him permission and said to him that “Let the dead bury their dead and you go and preach the gospel”. (Luke 9: 59, 60) In this place Jesus did not raise up the dead father of his disciple. So we understand that the long life mentioned by Jesus in not in general but only in particular. At the same time long and healthy life is possible for those who decided to keep the commandments of Jesus. Though this offer is not general and it is for particular, the fact is that it is an open call for all those who come forward to accept the challenge of belief and submitting to keep the commandments. It may be compared to the loud saying of Jesus as “who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” and the decision is left to the hearers, and their capacity. (Matt. 13:9) There is another truth in Christianity is that a Christian life is not by hard struggle or will power or any other difficult task, but it is only by faith or belief on the word of god and submit or surrender to god for the fulfilment of the word he believed! Also Christianity is not by deed but by grace. As per St. Paul, following the Law of Moses is by deed but following the commandments of Jesus is by the grace of god. (Romans 4: 4, 5) So we need to believe the words of Jesus and submit ourselves to Jesus to fulfil those words in our lives, and that is the secret of Christian life.
So, let us take the challenge and believe the words of Jesus regarding the long life, and submit to him for the fulfilment of the verses in our lives and found to be among those few who have a long life with good health and good sight and live in the center of the will of God and do something which God wants us to do in our lives too, and inherit Eternal Life, with greater rewards for the deeds we accomplish during our long lives, as he is the rewarder of our deeds! And it is not by Yoga or any super natural medicine man can live long with good health and without the hope of Eternal Life, but by keeping the words of Jesus in our lives by believing the words of Jesus and submitting our lives to Jesus for the fulfilment of those words in our lives, we can live long and healthy and with the hope of Eternal Life. May God bless us!
